About this event

Join us for an evening of groundbreaking jazz music featuring drummer Machado Mijiga, bassist Garrett McGinn, and keyboardist Rob Araujo.Multi-instrumentalist and Portland native Machado Mijiga wears many hats, both literally and metaphorically. Classically-trained, jazz-weathered, and eclectically inclined, Mijiga left the proverbial creative box at a very early age, with access to many instruments and a diverse musical background brought about by an intercultural heritage. Mijiga is a musical polymath; composer, producer, bandleader, educator, gear fanatic, and audio engineer, to name a few. Authenticity and uniquity assume the locus of Mijigas artistic identity. Self-expression is the prime directive, and the medium of choice changes like the weather. Bassist extraordinaire Garrett McGinn is at home in many musical settings. Garrett is a founding member of the Dilla Donuts Orchestrated project, a 20+ piece orchestra that has sold out shows in Chicago annually on Dilla Day for many years.Paying homage to the legendary James Yancey (Dilla) Garrett has played with artists such as Makaya McCraven, Robert Sput Searight, Luke Titus, Braxton Cook, Meagan McNeal and many others. McGinn was also a founding member and bassist of Chicago-based Hip-Hop / Soul band Sidewalk Chalk (2008-16). Rob Araujo is a pianist whose favorite restaurant is EEM; everyone should go at least once. Notes on Seating: The Jack London provides two options for ticket purchasers. Reserved Seating is purchased on a table-by-table basis in the central part of the venue and is only available for select shows. Seating in the General Admission section is limited, first come first served, and may be standing room only.
